University of Nevada Student Speaker Competition

A group of students from The University of Nevada student groups Delta Sigma Pi and the Graduate Student Association are organizing the first ever UNR student speaker competition. This competition is not sponsored by TEDxUniversityofNevada, but we are very glad to offer the winner of the competition a guaranteed spot to speak at our event on January 24, 2014. I am going to list their instructions below, but for more information on the event you should visit their Facebook page.

Description

This is a your opportunity to nominate yourself to speak about your “idea worth spreading” at the next TEDxUniversityofNevada.

General Information
*Only unedited videos will be accepted*
August 19:
Application and video submission begins

September 23:
Application and video submission due at 11:59pm

September 30:
Second round contestants are chosen (5 students)

October 9:
Live speaker competition will be held in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre
One finalist will be chosen to speak at the TEDxUniversityofNevada
2014

Steps
1. Record a 5-7 minute demo (non-edited) video with your idea worth spreading.

2. Email your YouTube link to unrspeaker@gmail.com with a brief description about your video and why you should be chosen to speak for TEDxUniversityofNevada 2014.

3.Five second round contestant will be chosen to speak to a panel of judges at the live speaker competion to be held on October 9 in the Joe Crowley Student Union Theatre

4.One Finalist will be chosen to speak at the TEDxUniversityofNevada 2014 event.

Submitting your YouTube video:
1. Upload your video to YouTube.
2. Mark the privacy settings as “Unlisted,” so that only people with the link can see it.
2. Email your YouTube link to unrspeaker@gmail.com with a brief description about your video and why you should be chosen to speak for TEDxUniversityofNevada 2014.

Benefits of Participating and the Prize
– Potential world-wide recognition through the TED Talks network.
– Opportunity to be possibly showcased on the TED website.
– One finalist will be chosen to speak at the TEDxUniversityofNevada 2014 event.
– Spread your ideas!

Rules
– Only one application can be submitted for each student.
– Applicants for the student speaker contest must be from the University of Nevada, Reno as an Undergraduate or Graduate student
